Grace O'Malley, I see these people are different genetically. But the point of my question is: Who is more Gypsy to you, a cultural Gypsy or a genetic one.

I'd agree with Mortimer's response above. If Irish Travellers gave up their lifestyle and married into the larger population they would lose all their previous identity. Someone with a Roma ancestor will still carry their genetics. The Irish Travellers are not Gypsy but they have a different culture than the rest of the Irish. It just confuses the issue calling them Gypsy. I think they join allegiance in the UK due to similar discrimination.

They have a similar lifestyle but not exactly the same. For example they have bare knuckle boxing, which Gypsies dont have. They have their own cultural peculiarities, they are a own group. They are just not Gypsies. People call them Gypsies, but thats wrong. Gypsy is a ethnic group. But it would be more clear if you asked who is more Roma, because Gypsy is ambigous and used controversially, once a austrian police man even told me that there in the town park are a group of gypsies who make trouble, but those were just austrian youths who were drunk.

I can see the point of the police man. So, in Russia we can call a Slavic (or other) person a Jew if he/she acts like a Jew. It doesn't mean we think he/she really belongs to that ethnic group scientifically. It's just the perception we get from his/her behaviour.

For Gypsies its usually something negative, if you are criminal or make trouble or behave badly and without manners etc. Gypsy means basically uncivilised etc. Thats why I dont like it, that they do that, I dont know how you see Jews in Russia.

Not exactly, here no one would say "he acts like a jew", and jews are not hated or disliked or viewed negatively here. Only old nazis who are maybe 3 people think this way about jews. In Russia its another world.

I think in Russia Jews didnt emancipated that much either. I think in west they emancipated more, you will find more conservatives who support israel then conservatives who are anti-semitic, in russia its different.
