Is there a link? I always assumed because Pontus is right next to Georgia, the ending -dze ("son of") on Georgian surnames got adapted onto Greek surnames as -idis, -iades, -iadis, and so on, which also mean "son of".
But people on here believe it to be the other way around, saying Pontic Greek is very ancient and conservative and it is more likely the Georgian ending comes from the Greek on the names.
Which is correct?
