I honestly believe that people who do "researches" like that are either perverts or are being financed by perverts (everyone knows that most scientific research nowadays are lead by the power of who have money to finance the studies - and even some results can be "changed" to make the rain makers happy).

From my personal experience of contact with people who were seriously in BDSM all of them had either mental issues or traumas and they were not capable for true love and connection with other person.
They are connecting through roles they are playing, they don't know other person and they don't want to know.
I can understand some BDSM plays between people in serious relationship, relationship developed on normal basis but those who only seek connection through roles are empty shells and pretty boring individuals.
