Default South American (plus Mexico) countries with the highest frequency of non-Iberian European surnames

This is just a game so don't take it seriously.

I used the most common surnames in Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Italy according to Wikipedia. I didn't use surnames that were common in many countries (e.g. Thomas is common both in France and Britain).

Then I saw the frequency by country in South America & Mexico.

And after that I ranked them and gave them points according to the Eurovision system.

    Here are the results:

    GERMAN

    1. Brazil = 154 points

    2. Paraguay = 126 points

    3. Argentina = 125 points

    4. Chile = 111 points

    5. Uruguay = 95 points

    6. Bolivia = 87 points

    7. Mexico = 46 points

    7. Venezuela = 46 points

    9. Ecuador = 32 points

    10. Peru = 31 points

    11. Colombia = 17 points

    Details:

Biggest surprise is probably Paraguay coming in second place. Bolivia is also higher than expected, likely due to the Mennonite communities. The rest is pretty much as expected.

    BRITISH

    1. Chile = 129 points

    2. Argentina = 121 points

    3. Uruguay = 107 points

    4. Mexico = 77 points

    5. Paraguay = 75 points

    6. Venezuela = 73 points

    7. Ecuador = 72 points

    8. Bolivia = 65 points

    9. Brazil = 58 points

    10. Colombia = 55 points

    11. Peru = 38 points

    Details:

No surprises here. The Southern Cone pretty far away from the rest of the group. Probably the only unexpected thing is Brazil coming so low. I would've thought it'd be ranked higher.

Again the Southern Cone filling up the podium. The biggest surprise is probably Mexico almost reaching the 3rd place. Also Peru is quite high compared to the other rankings.

    ITALIAN

    3. Brazil = 124 points

    4. Venezuela = 90 points

    5. Chile = 73 points

    7. Bolivia = 47 points

No surprises here. Argentina absolutely smashed it. Venezuela comes in 4th but that was expectable. Maybe Bolivia is higher ranked than expected – it'd be the only upset.

I've been doing this for over 2 weeks

    Finally finished it.

So yeah, pretty interesting in my opinion. Some unexpected things.

    Feel free to comment.

    Italian seems very accurate
German: A bit surprised with Paraguay, the german community in Paraguay is very known, but I thought Argentina or Chile had a higher frequency.
I am not expert in British or French influence, but it's probably accurate as well.

    What about Polish surnames?

There are quite a lot of Polish-Brazilians and Polish-Argentinians, check this data:

    http://polmap.pdg.pl/mapy/polonia_na_swiecie.htm

But I guess that they are changing their surnames, because Polish ones are often hard to pronounce. Also there are quite a lot of Poles with surnames of German origin (for example my mom's maiden name).

a lot of the "Polish Argentines" are jews and a lot of the "Russian Argentines" are Volga Germans. IF you check surnames databases (forebears) its pretty evident.

I have met some jews at work who were "polish"

Costas this is an amazing work. I hadnt seen this thread before. I think the charts are pretty accurate and show a very reasonable result.

This surname pages are great because they take into account millons of people. Genetic studies normally have samles of 50-2000 people in heterogeneous countries of 40-200 millons.
