Phoenicia/Egypt.
Greeks were not speaking IE language before arriving in modern greek region. Then they started to use the language of the local thracian sheperds and an unnintelligible dialect and language emerged.
They most likely hellenized or killed most of these sheperds. Some of them fled north in the thracian areas.

Is there a way to figure it out and break down the (relatively small) amount of R1a into useful clades and subgroups to determine it? Some people say it's Poland. It's a pretty small element though, and not particularly important.
I will say I found something interesting recently which may be linked. On 23andme yesterday I was comparing genetic profiles with some distant supposed relatives, like third to sixth degree cousins. One was a girl from Thessaloniki, and her maternal haplogroup was D4e1, which is quite rare in Europe and very interesting to be in Greece, apparently having an ultimate origin in East Asia. I don't know how that would have gotten there, but maybe with some Silk Road traders or something.
