Well factually he is not wrong, it's clearly the most distinctive African trait for hair. The fact a minority of people may have curly hair in Europe doesn't prove anything else than us being closer to Africans than East Asians are, which is true (though they are closer to Australoids).

Lot of people straight their curly hair, one of famous example is Taylor Swift today. She wears very straight blond hair to please fashion diktact. But truth is that more and more people tend to assume it in a wild style today. For long time people ashamed redheads to have redhair as well, nowadays with the "sexy hot redhead girls" trend, men tend to appreciate them more and people accept redheads more than before. Where I live it is not uncommon to find redhair so children are not molested for that. But I know elsewhere in France children and adults still mocked for being redheads... What a shame. It's just matter of taste if you like it or not but there is no reason to mock someone for those features.

Return of the perm? See why the '80s trend is making a comeback
Ever get a blowout and wish those loose, soft curls would last ... forever?
You're not alone. Now some women are turning to perms — yes, perms — to get beachy waves that rival Gisele’s, and some salon owners report that more clients are requesting the service.
"I actually had two of my team members come to me this week and say they wanted to add perms to the service menu," Lorean Cairns, co-founder of Fox and Jane salon, told TODAY Style. "And we've never had perms on the menu before."
