I love (and my daughter too) Soviet cartoons by Yuri Norstein. They are so oneiric. For ex.:

Some pictures from the above-mentioned film The Hedgehog in the Fog, because it’s one of the most beautiful films ever!

The Tale of Tales, 1979, by Yuri Norstein is with his other short film The Hedgehog in the Fog one of my daughter’s favourite.

The Tale of Tales is a movie full of melancholy, quite harsh, as it is about war and the trauma it leaves on our consciousness, on our memory. My daughter particularly loves to see, in the film, the wolf taking care of the baby.

Another amazingly poetic and beautiful cartoon is Inspiration, 1949, by the Czech Karel Zeman.

A glass-blower finds inspiration while watching raindrops running on the window. Then, he lets himself go in daydream in a universe entirely made of glass, where we see Pierrot and Columbine, from the Commedia dell’arte
