Having traditional views or values and being liberal are not mutually exclusive categories.
Liberals can be into some traditional values not for the sake of tradition, but because some of these values are sensible and good in their opinion. Just like non-religious people can be spiritual and can believe in God.
It is mostly about mindset, not actual values. Someone can be pretty traditional but still open-minded and with a very liberal mindset. Someone else can be very progressive but with extremely backward and primitive mindset. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? Progressives (and conservatives) whose mindset is backward and primitive are the ones who don't tolerate people with different views and try to shove their views down your throat.
There are also many atheists who haven't let go of religious mindset, they just "converted to atheism".
This type of atheists are people who seem to be absolutely terrified at the very notion that God (or anything else which has not yet been proven by science) might exist. They are also desperate to proselytize atheism on every occasion, which makes them just as annoying as religious devouts. They are these totally uncool people, who take everything even remotely related to atheism seriously, and are going to give you a lecture about ghosts not being real during some fun bonfire gathering when we tell each other scary ghost stories.
