They should extend their training and assistance to all endangered religious minorities, but they will probably only help Christians.

Matthew VanDyke (born June 11, 1979) is an American documentary filmmaker, revolutionary, and former journalist.[5][6] He gained fame during the Libyan Civil War as a foreign fighter on the side of the uprising and as a prisoner of war.
As a journalist and documentary filmmaker, VanDyke traveled throughout North Africa and the Middle East by motorcycle from 2007–2011. His experiences and observations during these four years led him to join the Libyan Civil War as a rebel fighter. VanDyke has publicly supported Arab spring revolutions in the Middle East and North Africa and has worked as a filmmaker in the Syrian Civil War and fought as an armed combatant.
On February 21, 2015, VanDyke announced the creation of Sons of Liberty International, a self-described non-profit security contracting firm, consisting of himself and several veterans.[9][80] Their current efforts are directed towards training the Nineveh Plain Protection Units (NPU), an Assyrian militia backed by the Assyrian Democratic Movement, with the stated intent of preserving Iraq's Christian heritage against attacks from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. He claims to have helped train over 300 soldiers of the NPU, with the goal of training a total of 2000 soldiers.[81] Deflecting criticism that raising a Christian militia will only fuel sectarianism in the region,[9] he has stated that the NPU will eventually enlist other religious groups as well.

Sons of Liberty International (SOLI) is currently seeking qualified individuals for a variety of roles within the organization. Our recruiting process is such that we keep resumes on file and reach out as mission needs arise, so if you don’t hear back from us immediately please be patient, that may change with future operations.
If you are applying for the role of a trainer, please note that at this time we are only recruiting U.S. veterans. Foreigners though are still encouraged to apply, and we will keep your application on file should things change in the future.

NPU is a military organization that was formed late in 2014, largely but not exclusively by indigenous Assyrian Christians in Iraq, to defend against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.[2] The Nineveh plains are a region where Assyrians in Iraq have traditionally been concentrated.[3] By December 2014, the group said it had between 500 and 1000 men in training, that the US was helping train them, and that financial support was coming mostly from Assyrians in the US and Europe
n May 2016 NPU said that it participated in fighting at Tesqopa along with Peshmerga forces.[5] In September 2016, NPU soldiers repelled an ISIS effort to retake Tesqopa.[6]
Also in September 2016, NPU worked with the Iraqi army to liberate the Shabak village of Badanah from ISIS, with the support of international coalition airstrikes.[7][8][9][10]
In October 2016, NPU, alongside Peshmerga and Nineveh Plain Forces liberated the village of Bartella from ISIS.[11]
In December 2016 Jameel al-Jameel, a member of the Nineveh Plains Protection Units claimed that Kurdish soldiers at checkpoints were interrogating and preventing Assyrian NPU soldiers and civilians seeking to enter the the Nineveh Plain.
