Relevant here is a statement attributed to Muhammad: “I have been ordered (by Allah) to fight against the people until they testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that Muhammad is Allah’s Apostle, and offer the prayers perfectly and give the obligatory charity, so if they perform that, then they save their lives and property from me except for Islamic laws and then their reckoning (accounts) will be done by Allah.” (Bukhari 1.2.24)

Syed Anees Shah is saying essentially the same thing: their lives will be safe is they accept Islam.

I’m sure you know, but others may not know – This is how Islam has spread across so much of the world. Village leaders are asked to convert; if they don’t they are beheaded in front of the rest of the village.

Usually, the village converts. In a couple of generations the young people have never known anything but Islam.

This helps me understand Christianity better. Christianity has no compulsion in religion. Our Lord is not like satan. He wants us to embrace Christianity using our free will. If we do that and get to heaven there will be no compulsion there and no police to reinforce the rules.

If they were wealthy, they should make fake conversions to Islam then get the hell out of the country. Alas, they are probably poor, which makes the call somewhat harder. If we in the West are going to take refugees it should be people like this - marginalised genuine non-Muslims stuck in Islamic states rather than the conniving fuckers we end up with. The trouble is, they're trapped.

Syed Anees Shah, when contacted, at first said that he did not ask them to embrace Islam, but conceded that he offered them a choice when he was told that the accused have video recording of what he said. Later, he disconnected the call in an attempt to avoid discussing the issue.

May Allah forgive him for his deception.

If they killed believers who were uninvolved in the attack they were taking revenge for, this is proper.

Comversion to Islam is a mercy that all accused non-Muslim should be offered in Islamic countries.

The trouble is, Pakistan is so corrupt that you can't be sure they were guilty of anything. It is all too easy to bring false accusations against them relating to blasphemy or attacks on Muslims when they have no other ammunition. Given the marginalised position of non-Muslims in Pakistan it would have to be pretty rare for Christians to even dare to attack Muslims. Knowing full-well what would happen, they can't be that stupid. Those accusations of lynching just don't past the sniff test.

I really wish Pakistan had remained a secular dominion.
