Hehe thank you. I thought to make this thread for a long time, I did threads for various other European nations and World nations, but finally I did it for Croatia as well.

And this is hard exercise to remain neutral when it comes to write about your own nation but you did it very well, thanks to history

Yes it is, that's why I noted that today we are friends or neutral with all of out enemies from past, and that thread itself is Historical overview.

I remember when I worked on thread; British Empire Atrocities thread, I knew some ppl will think I hate British ppl, which is not true, I made that thread because History doesn't know for Politics and ideology, only how to be transparent, and I think many of non-european users lover that thread, it shows this forum is truly transparent, or at least trying to be, at least from my side.

Where does the name Croatia come from? What do you think of the theory of it coming from Harauti (Arachosia in Latin)?

That Arachosia is possible, cannot ruled that out, some claims it comes directly from term Sarmat, Harauvat-Sarmat, as one of the tribes (as those Greek stone-tablets from Tanais say), so liguistics were searching in that direction, but it is also just a theory.

I know that many of linguistic experts agrees that Croat is not slavic name, but some others say it is..., it is hard to know in this moment, it is still great subject of discussions.

I should have done a bit more research before asking that question. I found this on etymonline, this theory makes the most sense in my opinion:

from Serbo-Croatian Hrvat "a Croat," from Old Church Slavonic Churvatinu "Croat," literally "mountaineer, highlander," from churva "mountain" (compare Russian khrebet "mountain chain").

Once we find I2a-Din in ancient DNA, everything will become clear I guess.

No any I2a-Din was found in Sarmatian and Gothic samples tested thus far.

Yeah, I was just going to mention it, yep... it is maybe most accepted today, from higlander in Croatian.

What is interesting is that Croats are first Slavs to have name, at least recognized by Pope and Constantinople, and back in those days it was like recognition from UN haha.

P.S. Not many ppl knows this here but there was no any mention of Serbo-Croatian language before 19th century, because before 19th century Serbs couldn't understand us, means they could barely, because till 19th century Croatian language was Chakavian (hybrid of old croatian slavic and Latin Dalmatian) & Kajkavian dialect (Northern Croats).

In middle 19th century our idiotic politicians applied Stokavian dialect (spoken back then only by 1/4 of Croats) as our standard language, to bring us closer to Serbs, because Serbs also decided to apply Stokavian dialect as their official language.

Stokavian dialect is in fact dialect from Herzegovina, no one has monopoly over it, but it turned out as standard both for Croats and Serbs, because of Croatian crazy idea for Yugoslavia in 19th century. And that Stokavian dialect is in fact today's standard Croatian language, thank God we Dalmatians preserved our dialect still (true Croatia; Chakavian and Old-Ikavian), also Histrians as well, and North Croats.

We payed that price in blood, in 3 wars against Serbs in less than 90 years.

Don't get me wrong, Stokavian Croats are also Croats, but they were vast minority once.

Because what our idiot politicians didn't know in 19th century is that you cannot overcome 1000 years of differenct culture and history with language, I curse the bones of those politicians of ours, I know this is strong word but there you go.

Today Croatia is again it's own country and Serbia is it's own country, we should try to make friendly relations, if not friendly, at least neutral as they are.

P.S. Grammar is different between Croatian Stokavian and Serbian Stokavian, but..., damage is done, it is almost same language, our linguistic idiots today are trying to bring more words into official Croatian FROM TRUE CROATIAN (before 19th century) into standard, but it is hard.

This is the map of dialects (have in mind that Chakavian and Kajkavian are the oldest Croatian dialects) while STOKAVIAN is placed upon us in 19th century as official Croatian language:

As you can see, the only natural Croat speakers of Stokavian dialect are Slavonians (eastern Croats) and Herzegovian Croats.

P.S. Notice be sound of some words how many of them are from Dalmatian-Latin language, you can just notice them by how they sound.
