Portugal has an oversized history, fascinating culture, and boatloads of sardines. Saving the capital city of Lisbon for another episode, we'll dance on the beach at Nazaré, marvel at a medieval abbey in Batalha, visit a royal library and revel with university students in Coimbra, savor port wine with the people who made it along the Douro River, and get to know Portugal's gritty and fascinating second city, Porto.

Lisbon, built with the riches of Portugal's New World discoveries, has a rustic charm. We'll remember great navigators, eat lots of cod, enjoy pastries hot out of the oven, stroll the city's back lanes and its reinvigorated waterfront, marvel at an exquisite church built with spice taxes, and enjoy some soulful fado music. Then we'll side-trip to Sintra to explore the fanciful castles of Portuguese royalty and climb hilltop ramparts with grand views.

Wake up and smell the coffee.

Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide | We start in Lisbon, where salty sailors' quarters and wistful fado singers mix with ornate architecture to recall the glory days when Vasco da Gama and Magellan made Portugal a world power. Then on to the Algarve where we explore the Land's End of Europe — windy and historic Cape Sagres — before savoring pristine beaches and arm-wrestling octopuses in the sleepy fishing village of Salema.

Trip report #19 In this video I will give a short impression of Lisbon Oriente station and I'll show you the Intercity trains (Intercidades) of the Portugese railway company (Comboios de Portugal). Of course the views from the train will also be shown here.

This is a trip report on the Alfa Pendular high-speed train in Portugal. These trains run between the biggest cities of the country. This video is about the train that runs between Faro & Porto on the section Faro - Lisbon. Trip report #27

Here I am presenting my experience on Comboios de Portugal a trip from Porto to capital city Lisbon on First Class. The journey time is about 3 hours. The train was comfortable.

Portuguese lawmakers have filed a legal claim that would change the #maritime boundaries of #Portugal.

Evolução da densidade populacional em Portugal desde 1801. Nessa altura o país cabia quase todo no Douro Litoral e no Minho

Ó, anciã, Mãe! Nossa mágoa é eterna
    Foste esquecida, perdida
    Vossa glória, vossa honra, banida
Mas vosso canto prevalece no fogo e na névoa agreste.
    Destronada e abandonada,
    Por bastardos humilhada,
    Ao esquecimento lançada.
