Those who learned Spanish, and native speakers, how much of European Portuguese can you understand?

What is your general impression of the language and what differences can you notice?

For example, as a Portuguese speaker I notice simple replacements like initial F as H, LH as J, missing or added letters (sea/seja, deseo/desejo, solo/só, eres/és), etc. Can you notice those things too?

I've heard other people saying that European Portuguese sounds like a Slavic language to them, including other Romance speakers. Portuguese definitely sounds very distinct from other Romance languages, that's for sure. I believe Spanish speakers can understand 70%-80% of written Portuguese but when spoken 20% to 30% due to our accent.

It is also very well known that Portuguese speakers understand Spanish better than Spanish speakers understand Portuguese. Portuguese has this nasal vowels which don't exist in Spanish and therefore it is not pronounced as it is read like in Spanish, you really need to understand pronunciation rules before you can speak it. In Spanish, they pronounce the vowels in only five ways, while in Portuguese I believe we do the vowels in about 14 different ways. "Ão", "õe", "lhe", "nhe", "ch" sounds really unfamiliar to Spanish speakers.

Brazilian for sure. Europeans speak in a "soft" way, that while very pretty, makes all the sounds sort of blend together.

I know it's not the thread's question but I could understand Spanish with 90% of fluency even when I hadn't studied the language yet.
