Default Y-dna of a Lombard Italian

Surname Grimoaldo tested at Ftdna. I1-L22

Grimoald ( Cividale del Friuli , 600 approximately - 671 ) was king of the Lombards and King of Italy from 662 to 671 .

    https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grimoaldo

It is worth noting that the geographic distribution of hg I1-L22 and its alleged place of origin are consistent with the alleged route followed by some German peoples—Lombards and Goths in particular—from the Baltic shores to Italy.

Grimoaldo is definitely an Italian name of Longobardic/Germanic origin (lat. Grimoaldus, German Grimoald, Old Germanic Grimwald, Grimowald)

Also Grimaldi could be a variant of Grimoaldo/Grimaldo.

Lombardy has around 20% I1. Northern Italy has highest I1 in general in Italy.

damn so its not rare like I imagined it to be, but damn high, the Lombards were Northern Europeans?
The Lombard historian Paul the Deacon wrote in the Historia Langobardorum that the Lombards descended from a small tribe called the Winnili,[1] who dwelt in southern Scandinavia[2] (Scadanan) before migrating to seek new lands. In the 1st century AD, they formed part of the Suebi, in northwestern Germany. By the end of the 5th century, they had moved into the area roughly coinciding with modern Austria north of the Danube river, where they subdued the Heruls and later fought frequent wars with the Gepids. The Lombard king Audoin defeated the Gepid leader Thurisind in 551 or 552; his successor Alboin eventually destroyed the Gepids at the Battle of Asfeld in 567

Too bad this person didn't list where in Italy they're from. Just browsing the Italy FTDNA project page there seems to be a fair few I1s from Molise, Campania, and Sicily.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duchy_of_Benevento

In Sicily's case I1 in all likelihood came with the Normans and medieval settlers from NW Italy.
