I was living in a relatively less expensive neighborhood, working hard and renting a room with my brother (we only used that room and a restroom within an apartment of a family that rented us the room) and splitting our payment between us both.

LOL, very funny question, but jokes aside, of course that clean money. And my brother besides working, was also getting a Master's degree in Boston University.

We are way way far from the kind of scummy immigration I hate and and criticize in this forum.

However, if I were condemned to stay in US forever, I would chose to live in Boston, or somewhere in New England, for being a place with a special culture/atmosphere that somewhat emulates Europe, and not being like the typical boring "all going by car" US North American city. You know what I mean.
I'm just reading your reply now, amigo. I didn't get a notification until just now

Spain feels way more familiar to me, yeah. I had a good lifestyle there, miss it. Although if you are going to choose a place in the US for living, for sure Boston is definitely not like another generic urban sprawl, car dependent American city. Its very nice in this regard, and when I visit most other cities in this country I feel like I'm in a different world jaja.

The smartest move is to live with a roommate or partner (in my case) in areas like: Brighton/Allston, Dorchester (although this area can be hit or miss, you can be in a very nice area and then two blocks down you are in a total ghetto), Jamaica Plain, Somerville, etc. Otherwise you are going to be homeless. If you are on a tighter budget look at Mattapan, Roxbury, parts of the South End ("Methadone Mile" in particular), Hyde Park, etc but those are honestly total crapholes and should be avoided otherwise. In my case I came here with a job offer so cannot help you in that regard.

Little sidenote, but when I first came here and was looking for an apartment to rent I stayed at an Airbnb in a neighborhood of Dorchester called Codman Square, there were a lot of bullets shot off in the general vicinity from where I was staying, and even a murder I believe, would not recommend jaja. Of course this area in particular is also predominately black but I won't talk about that...

    Seems overrated to me
Beacon Hill is cool, but the rest of the city has very bland, boring modernist architecture. Probably was a great place 150 years ago, before modern monstrosities.

Probably because it's one of those NA cities with a bit of European vibe.

Boston is not overrated at all. All the city has been able to maintain a very classic and cool atmosphere. Even the modernist architecture is very stylish, and well planned to don't disrupt the classic European-like vibe of the city.
