I have read multiple interesting articles stating that Beowulf is originally a character from Getae folklore.

For the full effect, get a bilingual version of it and try to read the Anglo-Saxon aloud as well as you can. For a thrilling version of Beowulf, get the KOCH Vision DVD, KOC-DV-6445 of Benjamin Bagby reciting lines 1-1062 accompanying himself on the Anglo-Saxon harp.

I wish we wouldn't have used an unmodified Latin script. It's horrible for Germanic languages as the spelling of English is testament to.

An epic book, part of our world heritage; everybody should have a bilingual version in his/her bookshelf. Melki has spoken.

I own a couple different translations. My favorite is by Seamus Heaney.

I also had "Eacencraftig" tattoed next to a dragon after reading Tolkien's essay on it.

I recommend the Seamus Heaney translation. He really brings it to life.
