It rose to prominence in the mid-6th century when the leader, Bumin Qaghan, revolted against the Rouran Khaganate. The two main branches of the family, one descended from Bumin and the other from his brother Istämi, ruled over the eastern and western parts of the Göktürk confederation, respectively.
    that's actually possible

afaik the word "Batyr" "Bahadır" also has Indo-Iranian origins. And Second Khan of Xiongnu's actual name was "Batur" not "Mete" or "Maodun".

There is no source who claims the Ashina were Iranians absolutely Zero. That's wet IE dreams trying to link themselves with the noble clan of Turks.
Ashina were also leaders of Khazaria (some clan members moved to Pontic-Caspian and created Khazar Kaghanate after 1st Türk kaghanate collapsed).

Ashina say they are Turk in their Orkhon inscriptions and when Bilgen Kaghan cites the names of his ancestors, it's also Turkic names: Bumin and Istemi.
    The rest is brain masturbation.

But it's understandable why IE's would want that
After Khazar collapse in the 10th century, the first Rus polity was 'Rus Kaghanate, and Rus (East Viking) leaders like Svyatoslav and Vladimir were referred to as Kaghan (title) and Vladimir even used Turkic tamga as his symbol. Rus states were built on the example of Khazaria and Rus rulers sought for Khazar Ashina methods to impose themselves as the holders of the heavenly mandate.
