Are Romanians slavs or Latin?

OK, but seems that Romanians were a slavic nation until XIX century. In the XIX century, during the period of history which coincide with the creation of nations and states in Balkans, they decided to convert in Latin. It's something unike. I have never heard something like this in human history.
