What about hockey? It is Canada's national winter sport and the most famous Canadian hockey player - Wayne Gretzky - is of Eastern European descent. But hockey is not so popular in Eastern Europe itself.

In Czech Republic, Slovakia and Russia hockey is quite popular. Maybe in Poland not.

Wrong. Inhabited (= southern) parts of Canada do not have colder climate than e.g. Poland.

I'm surprised Poles are bad at hockey. Even the Balkan Slavs are good at hockey.
