How come they got radicalized in Europe, when they are secular at home?

There's a very good reason for that actually.

Because individuals attaining acedemic credentials, aren't going to be lured by socialist nannie states as those you'd fine in norther-western europe, thus only bottom feeder, low class societies in middle-eastern countries opt for migration to Europe, the more succesfull and luckier ones usually end up in the US.

As for turks, well the ones who arrived to europe throughout the 50,60s and 70s, were peasants from central anatolia, saving their pennies for a possibilty of a better life in (germany,denmark, sweden, austria etc.) than dying a penniless peasant.

However not all immigrants are made out of the same mold, some (like my family), had no options, nor the luxury to pick and choose the country best suited for my father's acedemic carrier, it was either northern europe, death or bankruptcy.
