The only advantage I see to checking the "white" box on a demographic sections is to make it easier to get into an institution for myself.

and what institution would that be? Checking white rather then ethnic minority into any box means you're looked over to fit diversity quotas

What's interesting is that in a *linguistic* sense, it's actually Indians that are closer to Europeans than MENA are. Arabic/Turkish aren't even Indo-European languages, while Hindustani (Hindi/Urdu) are. Iran would be the exception to this. Religiously I would also present a similar argument, I think Hinduism and Christianity are far more compatible compared to Christianity and Islam, given the fact that Islam never went through a reformation and is heavily against many Christian values.

So as you can see the "Caucasian" similarity would purely be a physical one, albeit I guess that's the more important measure for classification nevertheless.
