Well, anti-Slavism isn't that prominent in Germanic countries. Of course Germanicness, culturally, isn't even widely accepted as a concept to begin with. Among broad lines there is something to it I think, but it's not the be all end all.

I'm surprised by Linebacker though. He often mistrust Western Europeans for our more domesticated state we're supposedly in. But I've also seen him write positive things about Germany. And this is about culture and history too, in the end.

Linguisto-culturally I'm more interested in Romance by the way. Some touch of exoticism might play its role here though. Still, I'm more inclined to learn a Romance language like Italian than I am to learn a North Germanic one like Swedish for sure.

German remains one of my favourite languages regardless. It's a well-polished and complete standard language, with less dialectic traces than Standard Dutch has.

I always joke that Germans (or by extension Germanics) are the 'Chinese of Europe'. Good at following rules, working and saving resources, but insect colonies have that too.
