Default How come Central Europeans look somewhat closer to Northern than Southern Europeans?

Following on my from other thread where I asked why a lot more Southern Europeans (superficially at least) look Nordic/Scandinavian than the other way round, I now want to ask this. How come Central Europeans such as the Swiss, Austrians, Czechs, Slovaks and possibly even the French and Hungarians look considerably more similar to Danes and Swedes than to the Portuguese and Greeks, despite being geographically half way between both?

Because both Central and Northern Europeans originate from the Steppes while Southern Europeans only partially originate from there. No Germanic or Slavic populations ever made contact with the Mediterranean populations or set foot in southern Europe until late Roman times. This is proven by the fact that there is no Slavic or Germanic component in the DNA of Sicilians. These originate from the Helena-Ursula-Jasmine Greeks who colonised Sicily. Similarly there was no reverse migration since there is no EuroPhoenician "Jasmine" component in Germanic or Slavic DNA. These population were completely isolated until 200 BC and 600 AD.

A blend of Western Austrians and Southernmost Germans. Do they really look closer to Northern Europeans?

Thats a pointless question, they have a more common gene pool, much more inheritence from Proto-Europeans and less inheritance from the Neolithic expansion.(and in the case of SW Euros,North African admix)

It's a myth. Austrians for example make sense as between Norwegians and Serbs by looking at them.

They look closer to the French more than anyone else, so neither especially Northern nor especially Southern. (Oh, Bloody, if you read this, just LOL at the idea that these are much blonder and fairer than Brits).

Maybe equidistant between Norwegians and Serbs, but then Serbs are quite Central European-shifted themselves. How do Austrians look/plot between Norwegians and Greeks or Albanians, however?

If you consider Albos and Greeks as southern Europeans then they do plot quite closer to Norwegians than to the former. Austrians are somewhere between Serbs, Romanians, Bosnians and Danes (since Danes are more western) or Venetians and Norwegians/ Swedes. Basically if you consider Greeks/ Albanians and Sicilians southern Europeans, then they are actually closer to northern Europeans by a bit, but IMO Serbs, Romanians, Venetians are also southern Europeans. It probably depends on the PCA as well, but it's roughly like that.

Of course Sicilians, Greeks and Albanians are Southern Europeans. What else are they?

I meant if u consider them the archetype souther Europeans since you said Serbs are more c Euro leaning, but IMO they are also s. Euros. S. Euros are diverse.
