LOTR was influenced by Norse myths and literature, such as Prose Edda, Poetic Edda, and others.
If you want to blame anyone for the racism embedded in LOTR, blame Norse writers who were, in fact, racists. It is evident in their depiction of Loki, primary antagonist of the other Norse "gods".
Why are they so angry with the East?
Because the pre-Germanic Scandinavians were kicked out of the East to make way for Greek dominance, and relocated to Scandinavia (up through Northwest Russia). They were later subjected to Germanic invasions/wanderings.
Norse mythology is a mixture Germanic mythology and pre-Germanic mythology. Then Germans took this hybrid mythology back to the mainland, appropriating it as solely their own.

How is LOTR racist? The fact that white is seen positively and heroic in the books/films? Well, yeah, but Saruman the WHITE was a villain. His orcs had the trademark white-hand stain on their attire.
The orcs were dark and ugly. But they were fantastical creatures - What the hell does they have to do with (swarthy) humans? Why equate ugly orcs with humans?

Can European people have their own stories, books and movies, why does everyone try to appropriate their culture.
