The only reason you say that is because the anti-sodomy laws prohibited anal sex. However, a sodomite is someone from Sodom that committed the sins specified in the Bible. The Bible didn't explicitly prohibit anal sex (although I consider anal sex between straight people to be bad as well) so straight people that engage in anal sex can't be called sodomites.

I remember a case of a brazilian guy in USA that had consensual sex with the daughter of a local reverend. As was a consensual sex, the only mean to put him behind the jail was using an old county law that forbids sodomy. They were an heterosexual couple, but he was accused of sodomy.
