From what I remember, Romanian sounds a bit like Italian.

I don't think French is any closer to Italian than Portuguese.

It probably has to do with which one you know better. To me it's the opposite.

Spanish sounds drunk because they just pronounce many vowels very fast mumbling their consonants. "tú etá toho cahao tio"

It's not much evident who is speaking Brazilian Portuguese.

First one is Brazilian, the second (saying DisneyPortugal) is European.

In Spain we say Portuguese speak with a shoe into their mouths.

Are you asking overall or just the accent? If it is overall then Portuguese language is obviously the most similar to Italian language. The accent is by no means similar but an Italian with no clue on French, Portuguese and Romanian language will most likely understand written Portuguese better than those languages.

You clearly are clueless about Romance languages Dick, lol. Italian speakers with no prior knowledge of French would understand between 0-20 percent of it. Don't guide yourself merely with the accent, Serbian and Russian sound similar to a non-Slavic speaker as well but they are not really mutually understandable.

The trend here seems to be that english speakers think italian is closer to french while latin languages speakers (who have a better and natural understandment of latin languages) think it's closer to portuguese.

Non native Romance speakers guide themselves just by the accent and assume it is similar.
