The soldiers of the Swedish Imperial Army known as Karoliner, or Caroleans, a strictly disciplined and aggressive fighting force whose notable tactics echoed throughout Europe during the Great Northern War between 1700 and 1721 and decided the fate of the Russian Empire. The Caroleans had a greater reliance upon bayonets and the spirit of the offensive giving them their reputation of being invincible. Their most noticeable victory that seemed to confirm their reputation was the Battle of Narva where a small Carolean relieve force defeated a significantly large dug-in Russian force.
"I have resolved never to start an unjust war but never to end a legitimate one except by defeating my enemies". - Karl XII, Swedish King and Commander of the Caroleans 1700 - 1718
