Ouroboros guide to Brazilian racial make-up

I'm planning to start a guide of racial make-ups to all countries I have lived or travelled for more than 4 months (Brazil, Italy, Spain, India, Israel).

Let's start with Brazil.





My categorization of Brazil goes this way:

North (Amazon region, ''Norte'' in the map): Iberian + Amerindian was always predominantly in the countryside. In big cities you can find everything , from Syrians and Lebanese to Germans and Blacks. Also, Southerners (see below) are starting to migrate there, turning some places to be like 90% ''White'' (German and North Italian mostly).

Northeast (''Nordeste'' in the map): ''Pardos'' (Iberian + Amerindian) in the countryside and ''Pardos'' (Iberian + Negroid, generally Sudanids or Bantuids) in big cities. Salvador is the blackest city outside of Africa and the coast of Brazilian Northeast have a heavy African influence.

Beginning here start the states of the Southeast region (''Sudeste'' in the map, the most important region of the country):

Rio: Octoroons and Quadroons (but actually they have also Native blood) predominate all over the place. Minority of Whites and Euro-leaning tri-racials.

Minas Gerais: Similar to Rio but with more Euro descended people (mostly Portuguese) on the countryside, more native blood as well. Southern parts of the state are like 80% Portuguese with small minorities of North Italians and Germans. Big cities heavily African influenced, 70% or more mixed race (mulattos, balanced tri-racials, Octoroons).

São Paulo: Mostly European, but you can find people from almost any ethnicity. From Armenians to Koreans. And a lot of mixed people as well.

Espírito Santo: Mulatto in big cities and heavily Italian/German in the countryside.

Southern States (''Sul'' in the map): Mostly Euro (German, North Italian, Polish, Portuguese etc) or heavily white admixed people (85% range). Small minorities in big cities. In some regions of the southernmost state you can find some considerable Black or Black influenced populations.


I think I'm the most trustable guide to racial studies anyone would find here, since I have no agenda and always present my points objectively and without emotional attachment.

There's no Indians or Pakis in Brazil. Not substantially.

Japanese live mostly in São Paulo or in a Southern state called Paraná. I don't think Chinese and Koreans are substantial minorities in Brazil.

Almost all minorities (in a % way, not in the American racial way) in Brazil can be found in São Paulo. The most diverse place on the country. Though mostly Italian, you can find there a substantial Lebanese minority and a lot of other ''MENA''. In the North you can also find Syrians and Lebanese, as I have stated in the first post.

I used to think Brazil was the most diverse place on the planet, but I think US is even more, there are a lot of south asians, menas, eastern euros and southeastern asians living there.

There's no substantial community of Greeks. Only small minorities in São Paulo, as usual. You can find almost all Euro ethnicities in Brazil.
Maybe African as well. MENA you find mostly Lebanese and Syrian (the biggest comunities in the world, there's more Lebanese in Brazil than in Lebanon).

But you're right, there's more diversity in USA than in Brazil considering the amount of ethnic groups present in both countries. The big difference is that in Brazil you can find more mixes between different ethnicities and it's not a hiphenized country (there's no Italian-Brazilians, Luso-Brazilians, Afro-Brazilians etc. they are all Brazilians).

You can say Brazil is mostly Southern Europe (Iberia and Italy, basically) + West Africa + Amerindian as whole. But you can obviously find everything.

USA is (was, before Mexicans/Latinos) more like a NW Euro mutt country.

They have different kinds of diversity.

How so?

They're going to very small cities in the North and in the region known as CenterWest (''Centro-Oeste'', a region I'm going to write about soon). Quickly they become the overwhelmingly majority of the population. Despite being a mixed country, in almost all places in Brazil you can find pure Whites. With Blacks it's more difficult because the slavery system allowed slave owners to rape (not oficially, but it happened frequently) the slaves, creating a big quantity of mixed people.

And we must debunk the myth that all Blacks/Mulattos/Octoroons/Quadroons are descendants of slaves. Some of them can descend from freed Blacks who mixed with Whites, since Portuguese were far more open to race mixing than English or Dutch colonists.

There are even cases of mulattos as nobles, land owners and slave merchants (the biggest slave merchant of the Atlantic Ocean in the XIXth century was a mulatto from Salvador).
