    This is also why they often can't grasp the easiest most phonetically spelled words/names in foreign languages. They haven't studied those language, you tell me? Yes, that's also true, but educated people use loanwords and have notions of foreign language to fully understand them. It's a more classical view of education, though.
    Some Americans even tried to make their Germans names more American sounding. We did the same in Brazil, many immigrants changed their surname

    german names are pretty similar to anglo names, they will struggle much more with french russian names and of course non-european names like arabic, chinese or indian

    French and even Russian are easier than German. Arabic and especially Chinese are harder.

    Thinking to TV series, sometimes ago I was rewatching Star Trek - Deep Space Nine: one of the actors is named Cirroc Lofton and when I was a child and I didn't know a word of English I used to read it "Cheerrok"; now that I know English I realized that Cirroc is the crippled version of Cyrus pronounced by niggers (the actor is black). The correct pronounce in classical Latin should be something like "Keeroos".
