The phonology is certainly heavily Celtic-influenced and it's easily perceptible by anyone who speak a Celtic language, even after the effects of the standardization. The pronunciation is fluid and connected like you see specially in the Brythonic languages, that are distantly related with the extinct Gaulish language. I would love to learn and study the language and others Gallo-Italic languages in general but sadly there's no interest by the linguistic community to research about that fascinating family.

Every Western Romance language has a Celtic substratum, because it derives from the vulgar Latin spoken in former Celtic/Gaulish territories (North Italy, the Alps, Iberia, France, Belgium), where upon a time Celtic languages were spoken (in NW Italy, for example, before continental Gaulish shared with proper Gaul, there was the so called Lepontic languages, a Celtic dialect with some north Etruscan (Rhaetic) elements. About rounded vowels, in the old linguistics of Italy were called "vocali celtiche", that is improper because they were likely imported into Northern Italy by Lombards or Franks, as we're saying. It is a pity that many dialects, here, have lost their vowel length, because was a sign of Latin and also Celtic vocalism. Classic Milanese (western Lombardian), btw, has preserved it.

    Errore.
