The Soviets tried to get this tradition rooted out, but they ultimately failed. I believe older generations weren't as radical about this tradition and only kidnapped as a ritual between with a girl who already knew the guy about to kidnap her and who loved him.
Sadly, the bride kidnappings have become so radical nowadays many are unhappily married because it's forced upon the girls without any consideration. It even drove some to suicide.

If my dad didn't agree to let me be with the person I love; of course I'd like to be kidnapped. That's how it should be. My dad is not a narrow-minded bigot anyway, so wouldn't need such a drama. But rural women need it.

it wouldn't be true kidnapping. the real one of course should be illegal or the kidnapping of underage girls.
but as long as you tell to the police your intentions .. then the guy shouldn't be arrested.

If anyone's watched; remember how Harry Potter is rescued from his house where he's not allowed to leave with a flying car. This is pretty much something like that. People should be able to pursue lives they wish to.
