Yes, Europeans and South Asians share some ancestry. But this phenotype is quite uncommon there, I have obviously cherrypicked some of the lightest individuals. The curious fact is that in the same families they seem to have people looking like complete different races, like Haley's parents (Argentano posted them in this thread), they look more stereotypical Indian and she looks closer to Europeans... I think it can happens in a lot of places with very diverse genetics. In MENA countries and in Latin America I see the same thing happening. Even these lighter than average South Asians I posted could have close relatives looking way more darker than them.
Even in Europe it happens, but in a less extreme way, like when a very brunette couple have a blonde kid or vice-versa. Genetics is amazing.
