Default 30 press ups / push ups to live

Someone sticks a gun to your head and tells you that he is going to pull the trigger unless you complete 30 press ups / push ups.

    Would you survive?

Test yourself, right now. How many can you do?

If I hadn't had a wicked chest work out just an hour ago, I'd see what my absolute max is. My last APFT (in November), I did 79 in two minutes. It's been some time since I've tried for an all out max though. My question to you (the one that separates the men from the boys) is if someone put a gun to your head and said, "do ten pull-ups," would you survive?!?!

I got a 270 on my prt so 30 push-ups is nothing to me. My running is holding me back from a higher score. Oorah.

Psychonaut, I think we are the only ones here. My max is 87 just under 2 minutes, the number needed to get outstanding high. I recommend dips for the triceps. Well they helped me anyway.

I actually only do pushups during PT tests now. Weight lifting is my bread and butter. I was kind of worried when I took my PT test last month as to how I'd do, since I hadn't done any Army workouts for over six months, and had just been lifting and doing HIIT, but I got a 285, which is right about where I usually am (the run is the only one I don't max).

Managed 8 last time I was at the gym. Chin-ups I find ridiculously easy, pull-ups are another story entirely.

Does that make me somewhat disproportionate?

Nah, it's pretty normal. Chin-ups (if done incorrectly) engage more of your biceps, while pull-ups isolate the lats much better. You can get just as much of a back workout from chins as you can pulls (chins are more capable of stressing the lower lat insertions and pulls the wide flare), you just have to take it slow and really try to feel the contraction in your lats. The best trick I've found is to focus on drawing your elbows towards your waist rather than curling the arms. To get a feel for it, try standing with your arms up in the air and pull the air trying to get a feel for the correct tensing sensation.

I just did 30 so I guess I´d survive. Have to say though it was surprisingly demanding ´cause I´m quite out of shape at the moment. Push-ups have never really been my thing anyway. Much better at pull-ups and chin-ups. I´m no bodybuilder though...
