Default Americans Dumber Than Ever About US Wars

    December 06, 2010 | Russia Today

Americans consider the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan among the less important problems facing their country - according to a recent opinion poll. That's despite thousands of U.S. soldiers killed in action and more than one trillion dollars spent. But as RT's Lauren Lyster reports it may be the mainstream media that decides what really matters for the public...

"Free, do you call yourself? Then I would hear your ruling thought, and not merely that you have escaped from a yoke. Are you one of those who had the right to escape from a yoke? Many a one has cast away his last worth when he has cast away his servitude. Free from what? What does that matter to Zarathustra! But your fiery eyes should tell me: free for what?" - Thus Spoke Zarathustra

Is it really the media's fault? the media is a business that wants to make money. they're only showing the people, what the people want to see.

I think that many of us have grown cold or apathetic to the fact that we are still in Iraq and Afghanistan. Not until someone we love comes home in a casket, does its reality kick in to our thickened and calloused skulls.

I believe that the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts where started as good entertainment in order to hide the fact that the US economy was on the verge of collapse.
Now that Americans are balls deep in an economic crisis, what need is there for killing Iraqi's or Afghans?
I say, let's bring these soldiers home with their independent minded generals to wage a military coup on the government but then again, maybe, that why we are still fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In any nation, it's easy to find people who are ignorant, out of touch, or just plain stupid. If I interviewed only those like them for a television news program, it wouldn't be hard for viewers to conclude that everyone in the country is backward, even when it's not so.

Also, when a nation is in a depression, it's understandable that the economy is an even greater concern for those out of work. When you're wondering where your next meal is coming from, it may be difficult to think about anything else.

I agree that the mainstream media wants to make money, but it is also a ministry of propaganda. As such, it feeds the American people a steady diet of lies and misinformation, in order to mold public opinion.

The U.S. government should never have gone to war in Iraq and Afghanistan in the first place, if for no other reason than that they're unconstitutional; these were not wars declared by Congress. Our soldiers should be brought home immediately, and stationed on our southern border.

About 5,000 Americans have died in 9 years. It is not like World War Two or even Vietnam. And there is no draft. These wars are also different from other wars in the past. We are battling insurgents not actually armies, it is more like commando warfare.

It's too bad America has become what it has. Stay out of other people's business.
