The thing is, with most great historic figures, we can easily find aspects about them to demonize. Especially when compared to modern standards of human rights, racial equality, gender equality, etc. Trust me, even figures like Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr. could easily get demonized if the political atmosphere came to it.

Indeed but in this case I would say its reverse, the big thing about him is what he stood for and what he fought for, and what he said about the soap is only "small" to glorify him. Its the reverse of a great figure getting demonised, its a bad figure getting glorified.
