In reality, that was war between Anglo-Scandinavian and French parties
Duke William of Normandy had certainly Flemish and French contingents and units in his army though the bulk were Normans. But again Normans were Frenchized by 1066 (it was almost 150 years that their ancestors settled there and started to mix).

So yeah it was somewhat a French cultural effect on the English.

There's very little in Sicily either.

As you can see, according to Bayeux Tapestry's creators there're only Angles and French on the battlefild. NormanDIANS as an ethnic group had not been invented yet at that time. But not just French thought that they're French . Anglo-Saxons considered them French as well

    Anglo-Saxon chronicles:

This was then told to King Harold; and he gathered a
large force, and came to meet him at the estuary of Appledore.
William, however, came against him unawares, ere his army was
collected; but the king, nevertheless, very hardly encountered
him with the men that would support him: and there was a great
slaughter made on either side. There was slain King Harold, and
Leofwin his brother, and Earl Girth his brother, with many good
men: and the Frenchmen gained the field of battle, as God granted
them for the sins of the nation.

There was conflict between three sides (parties) for English crown. Harald+Tostig (100% Norman), Harold (50% Norman) and William (0,1% Norman). Going back to the thread, it would be historically correct to call these people French, Gauls or even Celts as Roman historians wrote, but not Normans.
