I wonder the same thing: it's a mix of truth and absolute nonsense. I often wonder about such people (there are many and exist all over the world) and the only conclusion that makes sense to me is they aren't motivated by an interest but by an insecurity. Notice how they never say anything that is bad about their people historically (as if only their group has been decent in the world). It's always promotion and so anything perceived as good - whether the claim has a historical foundation or not - is automatically accepted as a truth. Often times the claim itself comes from themselves because of an odd interpretation created by mental gymnastics.
