It did not get dark enough to warrant anything special, like the places that got a total eclipse.

I was 12 when I watched the first total solar eclipse occurred on 11 August 1999, I used smoked glass to view the eclipse, I hadn't my sunglasses back then haha

I remember looking at the solar eclipse(I think in 1999) without those protection glasses. But only for a second or two.
