I don't think there have been Portuguese "Conquistadores", that was a Spanish thing, unless they were also present at the time of the Iberian Union, in Brazil. We had a similar phenomenom which was called the "Bandeirantes", but they explored and claimed the territory for the Portuguese, they didn't conquer anything.

Kinda jealous.
What I mean by that is that Iberians were very good maritime explorers for their time. Especially when you factor in that the Portuguese controlled trading posts around the Indian Ocean during the 1400's to 1500's; which was a big feat. Especially when they introduced guns/flint lock guns to the Japanese during the Nanban Trade.
^ Pic above concerning the Nanban trade
That is quite the feat for Iberians who helped map out the New World. Without them, I doubt we would be as developed and well versed about the continents/world around us if it weren't for them.
“The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.”
