At Dorylaeum battle in 1097, Seljuks of Rum were 10k and Crusaders 60k. Crusaders won but suffering heavy casualties.
At the Crusade of 1101, Seljuks of Rum and allies were like 20k and they defeated 3 separated Crusading armies each numbering around 30k.
At Myriokephalon battle in 1176, Seljuks of Rum were 40k and defeated the Byzantines who numbered 70-80k.

Ottomans were good too up until 15th century.
Turks acquired their respected image of strong warriors during the Seljuk era, that's when Westerners admired Turkish prowess.

Today, 24 May is the day when Seljuks became empire in 1040, after defeating Gazhnavids at Dandanakan battle.

Interesting thread. Tesekkurler efendiler. To me, the Seljuks represented Turkishness more than the Ottomans, who were notorious for looking down on even the term/ascription "Turk" and portraying the Arabs as "the Noble Nation", i.e. thinking more in terms of "Ummah" than Anadolu. The Seljuks and other tribes in Anadolu seemed to have more of their nomadic lifestyle, which was suppressed by the Ottomans. Nevertheless, they still built many noteworthy sites as I personally saw and visited from my time in Konya.

Interesting to see that while Turks themselves do not seem so interested, Westerners make such sort of good, detailed docs about the Seljukids and their Turcoman clients.

    Chaka Bey.
First Turk ever who bothered to get a navy.
He did in Aegean around Izmir.
Almost conquering Byzantium back in late 11th century.

Fall of the Great Seljuks who were centralized in Iran after Malik Shah and Tutush gone.
    Crusaders showing up.
