Does The Famous Jewish Bagel Come From Ancient Israel?

Although there is a difference in the preparation of each -in particular the boiling of bagels- I believe that the famous Ashkenazi bread role known as the Bagel (Yiddish: בײגל‎ beygl; Polish: bajgiel which means "ring" in Yiddish/German) derives from ancient Israel/Judea.
