Albanians are of Illyrian descent.
But not out of all Illyrian tribes but some of them and for sure Albanoi tribe that was recorded by Ptolemy.
Ptolemy mentions Albanoi tribe that is located just where today Albania is. It is mentioned in his books: Geographica (III, 12, 20) in second century AD.

To even suggest modern Albanians who don't even call themselves Albanians but Shqiptaris (Albania is an EXONYM) have anything to do with some Ancient tribe of Albanoi, of which the traces disappeared in ancient times and noone ever heard of them since then, is to engange in deception.

Illyrians, Dacians and Thracians all probably had Y-DNA Haplogroup I at 30-40%+, Illyrians even higher than 30-40%, maybe well over 50-60% I. Albanians are about 15%. So no, they have some Illyrian ancestry, but not enough in my opinion to call them Illyrians as a whole. It would be similar to calling the Bulgarians, Thracians. But even more extreme because the Bulgarians have about 26% I, and are more Thracian than the Albanians are Illyrian.
The Albanians differ with the Greeks with having higher E1b1b and have more J2b than J2a. The Greeks have much more G and T, and higher J2a.
North of Albania is Montenegro. They have 37% I.
