but how is it a waste of time if you enjoy it? lfe only has a sense if it is directed for enjoyment . a waste of time is waiting hours for a doctor visit while not bringing with you anything . a book for example, to distract you .. because you re hating spending that time

I guess hardcore gamers usually are immersed in virtual reality, which separates them from real life. From very necessary things like some physical activity once in a while. It damages physical health inevitably.
Also, imo, life isn't only about finding some pleasure. There're fundamental things like family, kids, education, self-improvement which require good investment of time. Gaming doesn't help these things but steals the time which could be used for it.

In some cultures, including my own, most men play videogames and it is by no means associated with nerds, neckbeards or anything like that, everyone here plays videogames, regardless of age or whether they're nerds, average people or drug dealers.

What I think is that books are overrated and videogames are underrated, in terms of entertainment and cognitive engagement, they respectively provide. Entertainment part is subjective, but regarding the cognitive engagement, I'd even say that videogames are superior to books overall. There's a stereotype, that videogames are either for small children and thus not provide anything of value, or that they're mindless hack'n'slash, gory piece of crap. Yes, I do read books aswell, and mostly the very well regarded ones.

lol yeah videogames for small children is an hilarious theory that only people who have never played videogames can think of.

most videogames are playable for people above the age of 12 , excluding younger ones with an higher intelligence, as younger kids would have trouble resolving some dilemmas and understanding the story ... heck adult players have trouble too!
while i think the ideal age to play a videogame is probably around 16 it doesnt mean an adult cant enjoy them.

many videogames contain bad language, nudity , sex and questionable morals of the protagonist , like in the saintsrow/gta series, which in my opinion would be appropriate to play for an audience that is at least adolescent.
