They all cluster with Northwest Euros though and not close to Basque. The Basque thing has been shown to be incorrect years ago. The reason is that all those populations come from a similar source and that is Rheinish Bell Beakers. That is the cause of the similarity between all these Northwest Euro populations.Sikeliot, didn't realise you paid any heed to the Northern euros.
Anyhoot, I'm not sure how many academically are disputing the closeness of the English and the Irish. Wouldn't the bigger part of the sameness though be due in part to ancient Atlantic populations (Not Basque but Basque-like)?
Of course, you still get anthro-bros tyring to talk up the Anglos and Saxons and Vikings, but that's to be expected.

As I've posted to Corded Whelp I think the reason why these populations are similar is due to the Bronze Age Bell Beakers. Both Britain and Ireland had population replacement in the Bronze Age with Bell Beakers who are the same as the Bell Beakers that were in the Netherlands. These population similarities go back further than Normans, Vikings etc.
This is my brother's K23b for comparison purposes.

I've been talking about this stuff for years and even before these Bell Beaker papers came out said that these populations owe their closeness to having a similar origin.

If the Bell Beakers built the megaliths, what difference does it all really make though beyond some minor semantics?
What makes the key differences between a Brit Islander and a full blooded Dutchman now? Yes, there is a decent sized common thread in the form of these Bell Beakers, but today these two examples are not of the Same exact stock..

AncestryDNA.com says my likely genetic community is Ulster Irish with a 60% confidence interval even though Grace O'Malley says my phenotype is a minority in Ireland that is anecdotal and not objective science so here is my results :

The Bell Beakers didn't build the megaliths. Those were built by neolithic people. The Bell Beakers only arrived in Ireland/UK approx 4,500 years ago. There is very little genetic differences between all Northwest Europeans. They are all most likely a mix of Bell Beaker and Corded Ware.

You are a little bit darker than the average and not that you don't fit. I don't think you look Spanish like some others here have suggested. You have overwhelmingly Northwest Euro genetics though and whatever someone's colouring whether they are dark or blond they cluster with their fellow countrymen. I don't agree with anthropological classifications anyway. They don't show people's origins at all and are very subjective.

More... this time I notice as you go northwest they get more Scandinavian, as you go south into Cork/Kerry/etc. they become closer to Cornish, Welsh, and other English.
This could be due to heavy Norman and Viking influence.

Norman and any Viking influence should really be more in the East. Anyway let's see what the Irish DNA Atlas says whenever it releases its results. It should be interesting to see where that Norwegian cluster is (or what that means). It's difficult with only these little bits of info coming out.
