Nobody knows the true origin...it is all conjecture.

I reckon 700 years in Iberia + introducing a profitable cash crop (citrus, lemon, orange, mandarins...all introduced to Iberia by muslims) may have a bigger influence on an Place name more than people would want to admit/

I don't need a Zoomali to explain me the history of my nation, much less the etymology of words he is clueless about. It is common knowledge only among borderline retarded 68IQers from Zoomalia. They probably think that Turkey is called that way after the animal too.

Not that you should care about oranges though, I am sure you are more into bananas.

Here is something for you to share with Gica.

    Spoiler!

The Arabic word for the fruit "orange" is برتقال (burtuqaal [remember there is no "p" in Arabic, and it usually becomes a "b" when we borrow foreign words]).

The Arabic word for "Portugal" is البرتغال (al-burtughaal).
That's ridiculous, no etymologist/historian sustains that origin, Portucale is already referenced during the Visighotic period wich precedes the Moorish one.

To find Arab toponim in spain is not hard (loads of towns there have Arab origin names)

    Even france has a few

For instance Porto as in portus is a romance word; the equivalent Arab word should be Marsa

Search it more In Marseille ( it could be Arab and not greek toponim very likely)

You want to talk about foreheads when you're a freaking Zoomali? ROTFL
    According to the urban dictionary:

    Somalian forehead

The biggest object ever seen by man kind

    "Look at that Somalian forehead!"

No wonder you have to wear scumbag steve hats all the time.

Marseille is a very old city, older than the Arabic language wich belongs to the Semitic family. Was founded by Greeks as Massalía by 600 BC.

Toponyms of Arabic origin are very rare to non-existant north of the Tagus river, especially in the western half of the Iberian Peninsula.
