Ciao, io ho una mia teoria su quella parola che se è corretta non è per nulla offensiva. Secondo me, come si usava in passato dare il nome di qualcuno ad una terra che aveva conquistato (ci sono migliaia di esempi tra i greci per esempio), anche la parola "terrone/i" viene da un nome: Therone di Siracusa che, come conseguenza altri che non erano da quelle parti, identificarono la popolazione come "teroni" cioè appartenenti a Therone. E magari il nome Therone era un retaggio dell'isola di Thera, cioè Santorini.
Troppa fantasia forse, ma spesso i toponimi, gli etnonimi o gli idronimi rispecchiano che ci abitava o chi viveva accanto.

- aspirated sound replaced by C (very common evolution), and we obtain -> Teràccu (Sardinian word for "servant")

let's take the northern Italian "Terùn"

Therapòn -> Therapùn (change from O to U, very common evolution) -> Theraùn (intervocalic P disappears, very common evolution) -> Terùn (the diphthong AU merges in U, very common evolution)

Result : Therapòn = Terùn = Servant
