Every people on here can have different opinions of how to divide the European continent.
My way on dividing its countries/regions would be as follows:
Northern Europe: Scandinavia (Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, Norway, and perhaps Finland), Northern Russia, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Northern Germany, Northern Poland and Netherlands.
Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia would also have their own subgroup within northern Europe (they would be the Baltic countries: the easternmost subdivision of Northern Europe).
Northwestern Europe: Ireland, UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), Belgium, and Luxembourg.
France: by itself.
Central Europe: Southern Germany, Southern Poland, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary.
Iberian Peninsula: Spain, Portugal and Andorra.
Italy: by itself (including the very small republics of Vatican and San Marine).
Balkan countries: most people would agree in including all the ex Yugoslavian republics (ie, Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Slovenia, Kosovo and Macedonia), Albania, Bulgaria, and Greece.
Some people would also include Romania as part of the Balkans, though I have read some other people say that Romania is not part of the Balkans. In any case, I include Romania and Moldavia as another region by itself (Romania/Moldavia). I have not clear, however, if I can count Romania as part of the Balkans.
Other people also claim that Croatia and Slovenia are not Balkan countries, though most people agree that they're part of the Balkans.
Eastern Europe: here there is some overlap, since all Poland would be part of Eastern Europe, but its northern part is also part of northern Europe and its southern part is also part of Central Europe, and Baltic countries are also eastern European countries. Then, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, aside of being Central European would also be part of Eastern Europe, and the Balkan countries (except Greece and Albania) could also be considered Eastern European, besides Balkan. And same for Romania/Moldavia (they are their own Romania/Moldavia region, but thry're also eastern European).
Finland could also be considered Eastern European, I guess.
The Caucasus: Georgia and Armenia (also part of Eastern Europe)
Eastern European proper countries: (those that are only eastern European and that are not part of the Caucasus, Balkans, Central or Northern Europe): Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. Northern Russia could be counted as part of northern Europe, and at the same time as part of eastern Europe, but it also sounds right to only considering it as being part of eastern Europe, like the rest of Russia.
Then, Iberia, France, the British Islands, the Scandinavian countries (except Finland), Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Italy (and perhaps Austria?) could also be considered Western European.
As you all can see, is kind of complicated.
How would you divide Europe yourself. Opinions?
