Is Russia a Slavic state?

Why?



To be honest - I always thought to call Russia a Slavic state is a Russian way to control all Slavic speaking countries.
I cant see Russia as an ambassador of a "Slavic culture". For me it is a multicultural federation that absorbed many non-Slavic even oriental ethnicities and their cultures.

And no, I dont hate Russia. I like Russia.

Come on. Poland is a totally different case. If there is a pure Slavic state - it is Poland - together with Belarus, Ukraine and maybe Croatia.

Because Russian slavics have ruled and rules that country (having concured the rest ethnics as growing up)?
Russia was still quite small country back in 1533. Just 480 years ago.



Also it was Finno-Ugrics who originally lived in St. Petersburg area, not slavic Russians.

Dear Masha, maybe it's all because there are 80% of inhabitants are russians? Or might be because is russian main language there? Or maybe because there are a numerous of world famous writers there? Or is it due to a lot of inventos there?

Might i explain you it on example. Ask users what they remember when they hear word "Chehia"? Except porn, ofc. Ans ask them about russia after.

Yes, I often heard that the "purest" Slavic nations are eastern Poland and Belarus. Russian Slavs have too many Finno-Ugric components.

The vast majority are Slavic-speakers, so yes, it is a Slavic state.
