Doesn't make it cool if it happened in many places.. but worse. I mean, masses of people's hands, noses, ears chopped off... millions of buffaloes massacred in a short time to deprive them of their livelihood... it truly was a genocide of epic proportions. I honestly didn't know it was so bad until now... you never hear about it. And despite Apartheid, we in South Africa were never that cruel to the natives. This was a whole different dimension.

The Trial of Tears is one of the saddest things I ever heard about.
Iberians and other colonists (Germans, Italians) in Latin America were never that cruel. Even in the beggining of the colonization you can find people like Bartolomé de las Casas fighting for the natives rights. Many laws have been proclaimed by Spanish and Portuguese kings forbidding the killing and enslavement of the natives, many mixed people and even full Amerindians were considered citizens and so on.
Don't know why Anglo historiography pushed so hard the so called ''leyenda negra'' (black legend) against Iberian colonists when they were 1000x worse themselves. To be honest, I actually know, it was always part of the same stratagem to make people believe Anglos are saviours of mankind/reedemers and other shits like that and other European colonists were brutes.
Even in South Africa before the English the Boers were never so brutal with natives. British Empire + Americans have killed more than 400 million people in the last two centuries. Anglo civilization is definitely one of the most brutal that ever existed.

Exactly. We never tried to wipe them out, never just massacred them for land, only fought wars with them when we were threatened, and in retaliation. And definitely never tortured them like that. I'm sickened to my stomach to read these things. Horrible.

The British Empire was by far the largest and most successful Empire in history. They did a lot of really bad stuff. You can only claw back so far.

Let's not pretend the Indians were a bunch of peaceful savages. That's a quixotic myth with no basis in reality. They were anything but that and were very brutal to one another. Let's also not forget that the early colonists were under constant threat of Indian raids. Do you want to know what Indians did to whites?
