Entice people to become doctors (which takes many years with an accumulation of a huge debt) by paying them less. That's a genius move, Draw.

Suppose his argument could be that the GP to patient ratio is lower & that more effort is put into training. Not sure what it's like in the USA but in the UK in general(Scotland, Wales & England have different systems) it has become a job that looks very stressful on workload that has increased considerably. Wages will have to rise to encourage people to work with hellish stress.

Ive had my same doctor since being a baby, but he has retired now. Happier days for the Doc.

It's very expensive and time consuming to train doctors. Do you know anyone willing to teach for free? You know anyone who will take time they could spend with their family to teach for free?

I know where universal healthcare eventually ends. The problem is people like yourself (who believe doctors on average earn half to 3 million dollars a year) have a distorted perception of the real world. There is no such thing as a free meal. Everything (education, heath care, etc.) has to be paid for by someone. It's not free. If the society holds of on paying for it now, then it'll be paid for down the road with a grater detriment to society as whole.

The world revolves around incentives. What incentives are you giving people to spend almost a decade of their lives (risk failing out and then wondering what they're going to do with themselves)? Less money? They work a shit load of hours. Do you know anyone willing to work a shit load of hours for a regular salary? Do you know anyone not wanting to be compensated for having to drop what they're doing to go to the hospital when they're on call?

None of this you thought about. You know why the doctor doesn't look at you when you see him? Because he (or she) is busy and what you had was something they heard from patients a hundred times before.

As if you can snap your fingers and more doctors appear or do you plan to lower the standards to becoming a doctor as well as their income? Why not listen to what doctors have to say about universal healthcare?
